Matthew is an associate attorney at Guynn Waddell, P.C. He earned his B.A. in History from Virginia Tech and his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law, where he served as a member of the Richmond Journal of Law and Technology and as President of the American Constitution Society.
During law school, Matthew interned with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and worked with private law firms and organizations. During this time, he gained valuable experience providing both litigation and transactional legal services. Prior to joining the firm, Matthew served as a Deputy Clerk in the Criminal Division of the Roanoke City Circuit Court.
Since joining the firm, Matthew has furthered his interest in local government law and expanded his transactional and litigation work experience. He assists his colleagues in providing legal services to a range of public clients including Amherst County, Botetourt Department of Social Services, Alleghany-Covington Department of Social Services, Craig County Department of Social Services, and Giles County PSA.
As an enthusiastic outdoorsman, Matthew’s experiences include climbing East Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro and New Mexico’s Baldy Mountain, as well as regularly backpacking and mountain biking throughout the Blue Ridge mountains. He enjoys practicing law in Southwest Virginia with its proximity to the Appalachian Trail and surrounding mountains, and considers it a privilege to work in such a beautiful area where he may serve its communities.
