November 6, 2019

New high-tech jobs are coming to the City of Covington. Aeronyde Corporation, an aerial informatics solutions provider based in Melbourne, Florida, selected the City of Covington as the location for its new drone operations command and control center. Firm attorney Mark Popovich who also serves as Covington’s City Attorney, worked with City leaders, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, and the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation to procure the contract with Aeronyde.

Mark stated, “I am so excited to have been a part of the process to bring Aeronyde Corporation to the Alleghany Highlands Drone Zone facility in the City of Covington.  This is yet another step forward in the development and deployment of new and innovative technologies that will boost economic growth and create new jobs for the City and surrounding localities.”

Aeronyde will use the Former Edgemont School property located in Covington in order to develop its efforts in the emerging market of Unmanned Systems (UMS), including economic and workforce development planning. The new facility will bring 25 new high-tech jobs to the area and will assist Covington in the valuation of its current transport network and monitor its infrastructure needs. Governor Ralph Northam was recently in Covington to announce the new venture and welcome the addition of Aeronyde to the region’s growing development in the new technologies market. Virginia competed with California and Florida to secure the project.
